In respect of yesterday’s trolling along Piccadilly, sleepless & mostly slack, searching for an envelope & stamps, I e-mailed a visa-acquiring operative & asked whether it was, in fact, necessary for me to apply in person. The answer: yes, unless I had used their services. They have a special arrangement with the embassy. So, both views are correct: I did have to be there in person, unless I didn’t have to be there in person. Regrettably, I had been there in person.
